PM Modi interacts with top Sportsperson in the country amid the Coronavirus outbreak

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the 40 renowned sportspersons of India as he spoke about the ongoing crisis the country was going through. During his interaction, PM Modi interacted with Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and the current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly at the video conference.

PM Modi also interacted with the Olympic medal winner Mary Kom as this was the first time that he interacted with the sportsperson amid the 21-day lockdown announced on March 24 to combat the spread of coronavirus.  

PM Modi also spoke to PT Usha, Pullela Gopichand, Vishwanathan Anand, Hima Das, Bajrang Punia, PV Sindhu, Manu Bhaker, KL Rahul, Zaheer Khan, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara as he hailed all of them for bringing glory to the nation in their respective sports. He also spoke about the importance of social distancing in containing the spread of the virus. 

The sportspersons also praised the Prime Minister and his leadership, especially during this challenging time. They also showed their gratitude by thanking the Prime Minister for ensuring the frontline healthcare and police worker’s jobs for their selfless services during this time. 

Earlier this morning, PM Modi in a video message addressing the whole nation urging them to switch off lights of their homes and light candles and torches on April 5 at 9 pm to display the nation’s collective spirit to defeat coronavirus.

“On this Sunday, April 5, we will challenge the darkness of coronavirus threat together. On April 5, at 9 pm, I need your 9 minutes. At 9 pm, turn off all the lights in your houses and light a Diya, candle, torch or flashlight for 9 minutes at your doors, or balcony,” Modi said.

Till now there have been 56 deaths due to the coronavirus while the number of positive cases has crossed 2300 in the whole country as the nation observes the 21-day lockdown till April 14.
