IPL 2020 schedule Announced: Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to play the season opener

After a long wait, the IPL Governing Council has announced the schedule of IPL 2020 on Sunday. As per the updated schedule, Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the tournament.

The season will kickstart on 19th September in Abu Dhabi with a blockbuster clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings,” said a statement.

The second day of the tournament will see Dubai hosting the match between Delhi Capitals and Kings Eleven Punjab. Sharjah will stage its first game between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings on September 22.

The season will comprise of only 10 double-headers. The first double-header will be played on 3rd October 2020 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament will run for a span of 46 days. The league stage will end on 3rd November 2020. The final league stage match will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.

All the matches will start at 7:30 PM (IST). Dubai will hold the most number of matches (24), while 20 matches will be held in Abu Dhabi and 12 in Sharjah.

Earlier, some of the reports indicated that Chennai Super Kings might not play the first game of this year’s IPL as thirteen members of CSK contingent, including two players, were tested positive on Friday.

However, in the recent set of developments, it was reported that all the players have been found negative in the two tests conducted after the extended quarantine period. Though, Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad who tested positive on Friday will stay isolated for two weeks.

They will have to come out with negative results in two tests, which will be conducted after the quarantine period, to get back onto the field.

The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League will start from 19th September 2020. The final match of the tournament will be played on 10th November 2020. All the matches will be played at three stadiums- Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

IPL 2020 will be telecasted on Star Sports Network. The live streaming of all the matches will be available on Hotstar.
