IPL 2021: Stuart Broad questions RR management decision for not opening with Jos Butler in their inaugural match against Punjab Kings

England speedster Stuart Broad is not happy with the decision taken by Rajasthan Royals management for not sending Jos Butler to open the innings with Ben Stokes against Punjab Kings.

However RR persisted with their old formulae which they applied last year by promoting Ben stokes to open the innings and using Butler as middle order batsman.

The strategy that the Royals management opted backfired in the first match of IPL 2021 as Stokes departed without scoring and Butler was dismissed on 25 runs.

However due to individual brilliance of Sanju Samson who scored 119 runs ensured that Royals give tough fight to Punjab Kings and eventually the former lost the game by only four runs.

Broad replied to a tweet posted by Sky Sports who shared a post regarding the dismissal of Stokes to which speedster replied that why Butler is not opening the innings and hailed his compatriot as best wicket keeper-batsman in the world.

Broad Tweeted “Why isn’t @josbuttler opening? Or WK? What have I missed? He’s the best Opening WK in the world, does it for England, why wouldn’t he do it at the domestic level?”

As Broad is not the only one who questioned Royals management decision an identical tweet was shared by former England skipper Michael Vaughan who wrote

“And now @josbuttler doesn’t Open !!!!!!!!!! What are you thinking @rajasthanroyals !!!!!”

However renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle was surprised with the batting order of Rajasthan Royals as he said that Butler should bat at the top while Stokes should bat in the middle order as he is the world class finisher in the game.

He tweeted,

“Must confess I don’t get the @rajasthanroyals batting order. Buttler is among the best in the world at the top. And Stokes can be a dangerous finisher!”
