‘Shreyas Iyer has got the potential to lead India one day’, says Alex Carey

Shreyas Iyer is currently listed in the category of future leaders of Indian Cricket. Over the last few years, Iyer has shown great potential and has been amongst runs, be it for India or Delhi Capitals in IPL. Ever since he was given the opportunity to lead Delhi Capitals’ in IPL, Shreyas Iyer has improved by leaps and bounds.

He has undoubtedly changed the fortunes of Delhi. He took Delhi to the playoffs in 2019 IPL for the first time in last seven years. In the recently concluded IPL 2020, Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals to the finals of the tournament. Unfortunately, the team lost to Mumbai Indians in the summit clash but Shreyas Iyer received appreciation from all quarters for his leadership in IPL.

Recently, Australian wicket-keeper batsman, Alex Carey also spoke highly of Shreyas Iyer in an interview with Hindustan Times. He stated that Iyer has the potential to lead India one day. Carey believes that Iyer has all the qualities to become a great leader and is confident that the latter will become a great leader in the times to come.

No doubt he’s got the potential to lead India one day. I think Shreyas is going to be a fantastic leader moving forward,” said Carey answering to a Hindustan Times question in a selected media interaction on Tuesday.

Carey emphasised on the fact that Shreyas handles his troops very well and lays emphasis more on the team rather than himself. The former added that Shreyas Iyer has formed a great bond with Ricky Ponting and certainly a great future in front of him.

He’s still young and learning his crafts. He’s a fantastic batsman and a great person as well. To connect with every player in a big squad like Delhi is quite a tiring task but he was excellent in managing that. His positive attitude towards the game and his partnership with Ricky really worked well for us. The future is very bright for him,” he said.
