IPL 2020-Qualifier 2: SWOT Analysis of Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad SWOT Analysis

Sunrisers Hyderabad is one of the most consistent yet under-rated sides in the Indian Premier League. Though they have a trophy to their name, several finals under their belt, the team doesn’t get recognition because of the absence of swashbuckling batsmen. However, they are on the verge of making into the second finals in three years and four finals in five seasons. They are up against Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2020.

Ahead of the game against Delhi Capitals at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, here is the SWOT analysis of Sunrisers Hyderabad:

#1) Strengths

David Warner Dangerous Batsman in IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strength lies in their openers. David Warner has been great in the league with 546 runs under his belt in 15 games. The player has led the team from the front in UAE with some match-winning knocks. Along with him, Jonny Bairstow and Wriddhiman Saha have played a crucial role in SRH’s success.

Though Manish Pandey came to the party quite late, the player is slowly getting into the groove. In the last few games, Manish Pandey has stood up to the hype along with Kane Williamson. It was Kane Williamson’s calm and composed innings that helped the team to chase down the target against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The spin department consisting of Rashid Khan has done a commendable job. Rashid Khan has 19 wickets in the league at an economy of 5.30. If these play to their strength, no team can stop SRH from winning.

#2) Weaknesses

Manish Pandey

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s weakness is the middle order. Despite having Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey, the team looks thin in the lower order. Only Jason Holder is the recognized batsman and if the opposition is able to remove the early wickets, the team will fall like a pack of cards in the middle overs. SRH has experienced this against the likes of Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders. The team succumbed while chasing a small target of 126 once the top four were removed.

#3) Opportunities

Abdul Samad

For the players like Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad, it is an opportunity to showcase their talent and skills. As the IPL tagline goes, “where talent meets opportunity”, the youngsters have played a big role in the ongoing edition of the tournament. Abdul Samad has played a crucial role in the death overs for Sunrisers Hyderabad and has scored 78 runs at a strike rate of 159.6. Also, the player is a safer bet for Sunrisers Hyderabad across the boundary ropes. The player has helped the team in every possible way.

On the other hand, Priyam Garg hasn’t come to the party yet in the league. However, he has got quite a good experience in the league and will be raring to go against Delhi Capitals. The player’s best performance came against CSK after they lost four early wickets.

Sandeep Sharma has filled the void left by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in a great fashion. The player has an opportunity once again to attract the national team selectors with a great performance against the struggling Delhi. In IPL 2020, the player has 13 wickets in 12 games and has provided the early breakthroughs for his team. It will be a great match-up between the Indian batting contingent of DC and Sandeep Sharma at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

#4) Threats

Vijay Shankar

The Indian youngsters will be under immense pressure to deliver in case the top order fails or the bowling goes awry. Also, the lack of an experienced sixth bowler is a sign of worry for David Warner. In the previous three games, David Warner has utilized the same five bowlers and the injury to Vijay Shankar has come at the wrong time for the team.

Even if one bowler goes for runs against the strong batting line-up of Delhi Capitals, Warner has to deploy Abdul Samad for an over or two. This increases the pressure on the youngster to deliver in the crucial game on Sunday.
