Most 100 in a Single ODI Innings

As a team, you would want to post big totals on the board in a match. And for that to happen, someone from the line up is required to play a big knock. A century from one batsman can help the team post a good score on the scoreboard. However, there have been instances when more than one batsman has gone on to score big in a single ODI innings.

We have witnessed two batsmen, sometimes three batsmen scoring centuries in a single ODI innings. As a result, the team have managed to post huge totals and thereby increased their chances of winning the game.

On that note, we look at teams scoring most hundreds in a single ODI innings:

#5 West Indies (2 Centuries)

West Indies 100 in a Single ODI Innings

The 1983 West Indies tour of India saw the former crushing India brutally. The fourth ODI saw West Indies scoring a mammoth 333-run total in the first innings. Two West Indies players scored centuries in that innings.

Legendary batsman, Viv Richards top-scored with 149 off 99 balls, while Gordon Greenidge notched 115 runs off 134 balls. The duo helped the side post 333 runs in the first innings. India, in reply, could only score 229 runs in the second innings. West Indies won that game by 104 runs.

#4 Pakistan (2 Centuries)

Pakistan

At number four, is Pakistan. Though, they lost that game by 18 runs. Batting first, Pakistan lost their opener without even opening his account. It was followed by another wicket at 70. Zaheer Abbas and Javed Miandad then steadied the ship and took the total past 200-mark. Zaheer Abbas scored 105 runs off 82 balls, while Javed Miandad scored 119 runs off 77 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes.

India chased down the total in just 27 overs, courtesy a good performance from the top order comprising of Sunil Gavaskar, K Srikkanth, and Sandeep Patil.

#3 Pakistan (2 Centuries)

Pakistan and England

In the same tour as mentioned above, Pakistan once again posted a good total on the board and much to their delight, they won that game by 37 runs. Once again, Pakistan batted first and posted a formidable 263-run total in the first innings.

Mohsin Khan notched 117 runs off 118 balls, while Zaheer Abbas made a significant contribution with 118 runs off 86 balls. India, in reply, could muster only 226 runs in the second innings, thereby handing a 37-run win to the Men in Green.

Two batsmen in Abbas and Mohsin Khan scored centuries in a single innings and thus attain the third position in the list of most centuries in a single innings in ODIs.

India faced a heavy lashing against South Africa in the home series in 2015. Batting first, South Africa posted a massive 438-run total in the first innings. As many as three players scored centuries in that single inning. Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis set the foundation with two stellar knocks of 109 and 133 runs respectively.

Skipper AB de Villiers too played a sensational knock of 119 runs off just 61 balls, including 3 fours and as many as 11 sixes. India lost that game by a huge margin of 214 runs. South Africa’s 438-run total against India stands second in the list of most number of centuries in a single ODI innings.

South Africa boasts of scoring a lot of massive totals in one-day internationals. One such score came against West Indies in 2015. Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw produced a stellar 247-run opening wicket partnership. Amla scored 153 runs off 142 balls, while R Rossouw notched 128 runs off 115 balls. It is the same game where AB de Villiers made a new record of the fastest century in one-day cricket. De Villiers tore apart the West Indies bowling lineup.
