ICC Test rankings updated – three Indian bowlers find themselves in the top 10

 

Team India now boasts of three bowlers in the top 10 ICC rankings for Test bowlers which was updated earlier today. Mohammed Shami, who performed exceptionally well in the recent Tests in the absence of injured Jasprit Bumrah, gained one spot to enter the top-10 of the Test bowlers rankings.

Shami is the third Indian bowler in the top-10 along with Ravichandran Ashwin at 9th and Jasprit Bumrah at 5th. Despite missing the South Africa and Bangladesh series, Bumrah is still on the Top five. Shami, in his absence, has been enjoying a great run of form with 13 wickets in three matches against South Africa and then the nine wickets against Bangladesh in Eden Gardens.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins continues to be on the no. 1 spot while Jason Holder’s five wickets now find him in the third place. Another Australian, Mitchell Starc has moved up four places to 14th after picking seven wickets in the Adelaide Test. Starc was also the leading wicket-taker of the ICC Cricket World Cup in England and has been in great form.

Starc, on the same day when he bowled a match-winning spell against Pakistan, announced his decision to opt-out of the IPL 2020. He had done that last year too. The last time Starc participated in the tournament was in 2014 when he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kagiso Rabada is at the second spot on the rankings, followed by Jason Holder, Neil Wagner and Bumrah in order.

As far as the batting rankings are concerned, Virat Kohli has claimed the numero uno spot from Steve Smith. Cheteshwar Pujara, at no. 4, is the only other Indian batsman on the top five.
