Watch – Shimron Hetmyer dances to a Bollywood song after bagging a 7.75 crore IPL contract

The auctions for the 13th edition of the Indian premier league were held in the city of joy, Kolkata on the 19th of December. Much like every year, a number of players went under the hammer out of which the most expensive player was Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins who was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a huge amount of rupees 15.5 crores. Among other players who made headlines was West Indian batsman, Shimron Hetmyer was bought by the Delhi Capitals for rupees 7.75 crores.

The batsman had finished the T20 series versus India with 120 runs at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 150. Prior to that, he had also performed well in the Caribbean Premier League in which he scored 40 runs in 11 innings at an average of almost a hundred and fifty. Although he could not perform well in IPL 2019 in which he played for the Royal challengers Bangalore but he has entered the tournament again on the back of his impressive performances in international cricket as well as the CPL. Hetmyer had chosen his base price at Rs. 50 lakhs and had interest from multiple franchises which kept bidding for the player and ultimately he was bought by the Delhi capitals at a price he had not imagined.

After signing the explosive southpaw, DC tweeted a video where Hetmyer can be seen celebrating his contract with a crazy dance on a Hindi song, playing in the background.

Hetmyer was the sixth most expensive player who was sold in the 2020 IPL auction, behind the likes of Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and Chris Morris.

The 22-year-old has played 16 Tests, 42 ODIs and 20 T20Is for West Indies from which he has 838, 1379 and 279 runs respectively. He was picked by Guyana Warriors in the CPL in 2016, after which he was picked in the IPL for the 2019 season.
