Shimron Hetmyer gets a new team in IPL

West Indies’ hard-hitting batsman Shimron Hetmyer has got a new destination in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he has been bought 7.75 crores by Delhi Capitals. He will play his second IPL next year after playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019.

Hetmyer was surprising released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the auction. But his clinical knock in the first ODI against the hosts India just a couple of days ago before the auction turned the tables. He scored 139 off just 106 balls to win the first ODI for West Indies and it helped him to remain in the spotlight ahead of the auction. He was also the highest run-scorer in the T20I series, scoring 120 runs in three matches at a strike-rate of 151.89.

The youngster had a base price of 50 lakh, was bought for 15.5 times his base price. However, his compatriot Evin Lewis went unsold at his base price of Rs. 1 crore.

Other players who were unsold in that set are Manoj Tiwary (unsold from base price at 50 lakh), Colin Ingram (unsold from base price at 50 lakh), Martin Guptill (unsold from base price at 1 crore), Carlos Brathwaite (unsold from base price at 50 lakh), Marcus Stoinis (unsold from base price at 1 crore), Andile Phehlukwayo (unsold for base price at 50 lakh), Colin Munro (unsold for base price for 1 crore).

Here’s how Shimron Hetmyer reacted after getting a new IPL side:

Australia’s all-rounder Ben Cutting also remained unsold. Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who played a crucial in helping Sunrisers Hyderabad to lift their first-ever IPL trophy also went unsold.

On the other hand, South Africa batsman David Miller was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a cheap price of Rs. 75 lakh, while Saurabh Tiwary sold to MI for 50 lakh, Mitchell Marsh was snapped by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 2 crores and James Neesham sold to KXIP at 50 lakh.
