IPL 2020: Rabada hold nerves to help Delhi Capitals win over Kings XI Punjab in a super over thriller

Nothing beats the excitement of IPL matches. The tournament never fails to impress the fans. IPL 2020 staged its second game on Sunday and we have already witnessed a super over. It was one great spectacle where the fortunes turned in favour of both the teams at regular intervals.

Until the 19. 4 overs of the second innings, Punjab looked on course to win the game as just 1 run was needed in the final two deliveries. Mayank Agarwal played a sensational knock to script Punjab’s comeback from a dire situation of 55 for 5.

He almost took his side home but sliced the ball straight to Shimron Hetmyer on the second last ball of the final over. It was followed by Jordan’s wicket on the last ball as the match ended in a tie.

Kagiso Rabada, the death over specialist, once again came to the fore as he produced one stellar super over, conceding just 2 runs. Delhi comfortably chased the total and thereby opened their account in the 13th edition of the cash-rich league.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals’s got off to a worst possible start in the first innings, having lost their first 3 wickets for just 13 runs in 3.6 overs. Mohammad Shami was the star performer for Punjab who claimed sensational figures of 3 for 15 in 4 overs.

Though Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer then steadied the ship, combining 74 runs for the fourth wicket. However, the wicket of Pant in the fourteenth over once again brought back the game into Punjab’s favour. After 14.1 overs, Delhi Capitals had lost 4 wickets for just 87 runs.

Delhi would perhaps have ended up under 120, however, some fierce batting display from the new recruit Marcus Stoinis helped them reach 154 in 20 overs. Delhi added 57 runs in last three overs, of which 49 runs were scored by Stoinis himself.
