IPL 2020: Navdeep Saini is the only good death bowler in the RCB, opines Aakash Chopra

Navdeep Saini

Royal Challengers Bangalore will square up against Kings XI Punjab at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Royal Challengers Bangalore are coming off with a win against SRH, while Kings XI Punjab are yet to earn their first points in the league.

In one looks at RCB’s performance in the last game, they could have lost the game had Yuzvendra Chahal not produced a game-turning spell in the middle overs. The game also highlighted the team’s weakness in the death overs. Senior bowler, Umesh Yadav went for plenty. With Chris Morris still injured, RCB could suffer at the death against KXIP.

Cricketer-turned commentator, Aakash Chopra also highlighted RCB’s death bowling woes and said that Navdeep Saini is the only death over bowler they have at the moment.

Dale Steyn is not a death bowler and Morris is still injured and you would have to go to Umesh Yadav or Siraj, that is not going to happen. Navdeep Saini is the only good death bowler in the RCB bowling attack.”

Chopra also wished to include Moeen Ali or Isuru Udana in place of Joshua Philippe in the eleven. Joshua Philippe got to bat just 2 deliveries, scoring 1 in the previous game.

I would say RCB should play Moeen Ali instead of Joshua Phillipe. They may want to change their fast bowlers, but they don’t have much of an option,” Chopra said.

“The other thought I may have is Isuru Udana for Dale Steyn or Isuru Udana for Joshua Phillipe and play Gurkeerat Mann as a batsman in the middle because the RCB bowling is weak.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the last game against SRH by 10 runs. Batting first, RCB notched up 163 in 20 overs. Debutant, Devdutt Padikkal scored a brilliantly 56 off 42 balls, while AB de Villiers amassed 51 off 30 balls. SRH, in reply, fell short of 10 runs.
