Wasim Jaffer picks his choice of openers for England series

After India’s dismal outing against New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship final in Southampton where the latter defeated former by eight wickets to be coined as first World Champions of the longest format of the game.

There were couple of reasons behind India’s disappointing performance one such being lack of match practice and other being Poor batting display by important members of national side against Kiwis.

Former Indian cricketer and current KXIP batting coach KL Rahul suggested that as Shubhman gill is injured now and he will not be a part of first Test it is better to give chance to Mayank Agarwal who can open the batting with Rohit Sharma.

As the Karnataka based opening batsman has stellar record in last 14 test he has been part of where he has scored 1052 runs at an average of 45.74 which is slightly good number.

Jaffer believes that Agarwal deserve one more chance in the national side on account of his terrific showing in Test cricket in a short span of time for national side.

“It will be a bigger opportunity for Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul with Mayank being my first experience. He has had an excellent career so far. He was dropped after two poor outings in Australia but I am sure he will be looking forward for the opportunity. It is a very big five match series of five Test matches which can make or break any cricketer career. I also feel that KL Rahul can also fit as middle order if not opener” Jaffer said on his YouTube video.

As both powerhouse of cricket will lock horns against each other for five match Test series starting from 4th June 2021.
