Wasim Jaffer scores 12,000 runs in Ranji Trophy history

The veteran cricketer Wasim Jaffer became the first batsman to score 12,000 runs in Ranji Trophy history during the 1st day of the 8th round match against Kerala in a Group A match played at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on Tuesday.

Jaffer made its first-class debut for Mumbai in 1996. After helping Mumbai winning titles, he moved to Vidarbha in the 2015/2016 season. In November 2018, in the third-round match against Baroda, Jaffer became the first player in Ranji Trophy history to score 11,000 runs. He has played key roles in helping Vidarbha winning back to back titles in 2017/18 and 2018/19. Before the start of the 2019/20 season, Wasim Jaffer had scored 11775 runs. During the ongoing Ranji season, Jaffer created history by becoming the first player to feature in 150 matches. He is one of the legends in the Indian domestic circuit.

Apart from being a brilliant player in domestic cricket, Wasim Jaffer has featured for India in 31 Test matches, 2 ODIs. In the 31 Test matches he played for India; the veteran scored 1944 runs from 31 matches (58 innings) with the best score of 212 runs against West Indies in 2008.

In the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy season, Jaffer scored 7 and 1 against Gujarat, 83 and 40 against Delhi, 11 against Bengal, 4 against Punjab, 60 against Rajasthan, was dismissed for 0 against Andhra Pradesh.

Jaffer has played 259 first-class matches (420 innings) with 19353 runs at an average of 50.66. His best score in domestic cricket is 314*. It is a big achievement for any player to sustain such consistency.
