Shubman Dejected Selection Snub: Shubman Gill has expressed his disappointment over non-selection for the West Indies tour. After a series of good performances, the 19-year-old batsman was hoping the selectors turn an eye towards him, but is dejected with the selectors ignoring him for the upcoming tour of the West Indies.

Gill scored 218 runs for India ‘A’ in the unofficial five-match series held in West Indies, scoring three half-centuries in the series, and was certain of his selection.

After a scribbled run in the World Cup semi-finals that led to the end of Team India’s campaign. selectors had already shown the intent to give more youngest, the opportunities, and prepare them for the next World Cup.

Shubman Gill is in scintillating form as he aggregated the highest runs in the just-concluded series against West Indies ‘A’ averaging 54.50.

The stylish right-handed batsman expressed his disappointment after not getting a spot in the senior team despite performing well. After the squad announcement, the latter expressed his disappointment saying, “I was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced on Sunday and I expected to be selected for at least one of the squads,”

Gill went on to say, “It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it. I’ll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors.”

“The West Indies team that we faced here in the series was very good. The pitches — especially in the first few one-dayers — were very tough to bat on. It was tough challenging cricket and it’s good that we managed to come out on top,” Gill said.

“It was a fantastic series for me and team as well since we won with a 4-1 margin. Personally, I would have liked to carry on and score at least a couple of hundreds in those fifties. But I will learn from this experience,”

Although Chief Selector MSK Prasad said they have not ignored Gill he will have to wait for his chances. As of now, Selectors have included Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey, who also performed exceptionally in the concluded series against West Indies A.

Gill, who made his ODI debut earlier this year against New Zealand, when he played as a replacement for KL Rahul, will be considered in the future as he is an emerging star of the Indian batting. The youngster also spoke about the changes he brought in his batting to make him a more efficient batsman for his side.

He said, “The biggest lesson that I have learned from my first West Indies tour is to try to curb my natural game depending on match condition. It’s important to block the good balls as well and remain at the crease for as long as possible. Person who is set at the crease needs to bat through the difficult period,”
