This year’s Caribbean show is sure to have one thing, runs, runs and more runs. Incepted in 2013, the Caribbean Premier League has witnessed a lot of power hitting throughout its various editions. Batsmen like Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Ewin Lewis have shown their batting prowess and their love of hitting boundaries.
The Caribbean Premier League is all set to commence its latest edition from the 18th of August, which will be played amongst 6 teams. The tournament will feature 34 games played across two venues. While we wait for the most interesting league to commence, let’s take a step back and look at some amazing performances by some prominent players who were part of CPL in the previous years.

1) Chris Gayle- 4 centuries
The Universe Boss Chris Gayle has been one of the marquee players in the Caribbean Premier League. Earlier he has represented franchises like Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the tournament.
He has also won the CPL title twice with the Tallawahs. The left-handed batsman is the leading T20 run-scorer of all time as well as the man with the most centuries in the format. He is also the leading CPL run-scorer of all time, having amassed 2,344 runs in the tournament. With a total of 4 centuries, Chris Gayle tops are a list of the top 5 players with most centuries in the CPL history.
2) DR Smith- 4 centuries
Dwayne Smith is the perfect prototype of vintage Calypso style batting – high backlift, strong pickup shots over mid-wicket and square leg, powerful drives through the off-side, and the amazing attitude he carries while he comes at the pitch. To sum up, if these attributes don’t records for best of the best, then Bravo’s would have been termed as an underperformer. In his earlier playing days, Smith was rumored to have been recognized as a sizable talent by none other than Vivian Richards himself, and this is the greatest testimony any player could get.
He has represented teams like Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Jamaica Tallawahs. With over 4 centuries in 65 matches, with 110 not out being his best knocks so far, Dwayne Smith is the second player to be in our top 5 most centuries in the CPL list.
3) AD Russell- 2 Centuries
Most 100 in CPL: West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell emerged out to be the star of all times, whether he played for the Windies, or the Indian cash-rich league the Indian Premier League or the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). At the CPL, he led his team, Jamaica Tallawahs, to an emphatic victory over Trinbago Knight Riders. He played an innings of 121* off just 49 balls and also bagged three wickets to emerge out to the star for his side. During the course of leading his team to a winning side, he broke a plethora of records.
He became the second-ever player in the history of Twenty20 cricket to scalp a hat-trick and score a ton in the same game. Joe Denly from England, who has played nine ODIs and five T20 Internationals was the first to script the history. He also broke the record of scoring the fastest hundred in the history of the Caribbean Premier League, where he reached the 100-run mark on the 40th delivery itself. With Russell’s such iconic performances, he is the third player to get most hundreds in the top 5 players of CPL.
4) C Munroe- 1 century
Colin Munro was the only batsman to score most runs in a single season of the CPL in the 2018 season. He scored a total of 567 runs in 13 matches. While he gather6 half-centuries in that season. He also belongs to the most number of centuries by a player in CPL history. Where only a handful of players managed to be a part of this segment, Colin Munroe happens to be one of them. He scored a hundred not out which is the fourth-best century in CPL ever. In 46 matches, he played, Munroe accumulated a total of 1546 runs with a strike rate of 137.91 which includes 128 boundaries and 77 sixes. Munroe was a part of Trinbago Knight Riders previously in CPL.
5) KA Pollard- 1 century
Most 100 in CPL: West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard isn’t short of any introduction. he has made plenty of heads turn around with his swashbuckling performances. He is at the fifth position in our top 5 players to hit most centuries in CPL history with his maiden century which also happens to be one of the best knocks in CPL. He made his maiden Twenty20 century as St Lucia Stars register a 38-run victory over Barbados Tridents. It was the second-fastest ton in the history of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) post-Andre Russell’s match-winning 121 not out during the Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders clash.
The opposites St. Lucia Stars managed to put up a well defeating score of 226 runs with 6 wickets down versus the Barbados Tridents only to record the highest total in CPL history. It was Pollard’s brilliant century which broke a 15-game losing streak and helped the team register their first win in the Caribbean Premier League. Kieron Pollard smashed 104 runs from 54 balls at the in St Lucia. In reply, Tridents could only score a 188 runs. Apart from St. Lucas Stars, Pollard has played for Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders in the previous seasons.
