IPL 2023 : “Was waiting for my coffee but left it on the table to go out and Bat!” Axar Patel reveals.

IPL outfit Delhi Capitals had something to cheer about last night as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in a low scoring affair. This was DC’s 2nd victory on the trot after losing 5 matches in a row since the start of the season.

Although the win will not change their position in the standings but it will surely boost their confidence as the season proceeds. A poor net run rate than Kolkata Knight Riders (-0.186) and Hyderabad (-0.725) is what denied Delhi from moving up in the table as they have an NRR of -0.961.

But for a fact, Delhi Capitals still have a lot of work to do as they are yet to register a convincing victory in IPL this year. They might have won back-to-back matches but they were against relatively weaker sides. In order to prevail over the big guns, Ricky Ponting and Co. will have to solve their Batting issues.

Their middle-order needs to stand up be it the foreign batters or the local players. Meanwhile, All-Rounder Axar Patel who has been the standout player for DC became the Man of the match last night against Sunrisers Hyderabad for his all-round performance.

With the bat, Axar played a slow inning of 34 runs off 34 deliveries and he bowled a brilliant spell with the ball, accounting for just 21 runs alongside 2 important wickets of Mayank Aggarwal and SRH captain Aiden Markram.

When he was asked to come and collect his man of the match award by Harsha Bhogle during the post match presentation, Axar Patel revealed that he was waiting for a cup of coffee before realizing his turn to bat has arrived. In the 7th over of the 1st innings, SRH removed 3 batters in a row in the form of David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan.

At that time, Axar had ordered coffee and he was waiting for it before 3 wickets fell in a matter of a few minutes. In his own words he said – Mujhe toh kuch pata hi nahi chala, maine toh coffee order ki thi. Par wahi coffee ka glass main vaise ka vaisa chhod ke aaya jab mujhe pata chala ki teen wicket ek hi over mein chale gaye hain. Toh main bhaag ke seedha andar aaya.”Β
