IPL 2023 : In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, is it time for Jofra Archer to take matters in his own hands?

IPL 2023 In Jasprit Bumrah's absence, is it time for Jofra Archer to take matters in his own hands

The most successful team in the Indian Premier League will have redemption on their mind after a horrific end to season 15. The 5-time winners were unable to reach the play-offs for the 2nd year in a row as they finished at the bottom of the table last term with just 4 wins in the entire tournament.

This year, Mumbai Indians dealt with a major blow when Senior Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the tournament due to a recurring injury. But all thanks to their decent squad depth there isn’t much to worry about. MI have overseas bowlers like Jofra Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Cameron Green and also have a number of talented local bowlers.

And with Bumrah ruled out, World Cup winner with England in 2019, Jofra Archer is all set to rock oppositions with his beamers. Archer was bought by MI during the Mega Auction in 2021 for an amount of INR 8 Crore but somehow that money was of no use as Jofra Archer missed the entire tournament last year due to an injury.

MI are facing a similar situation this year and Archer will definitely look to lead the bowling attack and repay the trust that MI management had put on him last year.

Archer recently took four wickets in the T20I series and five in the ODI series during England’s visit of Bangladesh. He played for MI Cape Town in the SA20 league and ended with 10 wickets in six matches and when MI comes out to play this year, Archer as well as the MI management will hope for a decent season.

MI’s opening match is up against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2nd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In total, the 28-year-old has counted for 46 wickets in 35 IPL appearances. He had picked 15 wickets in his debut season (2018) for Rajasthan Royals followed by 11 wickets and 20 wickets in the following 2 seasons.
