Best XI of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020

Indian Premier League is considered as one of the most entertaining leagues in the cricketing circuit right now. Despite being stayed in the lower ranks in the points table since the beginning, Delhi reached the playoff under a new captain – Shreyas Iyer. However, they managed some good players during the recently concluded IPL auction and made their squad as strong as possible.

Moreover, during the IPL player trade window, they acquired the services of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin to make both their batting and bowling departments strong. In the IPL 2020 Auction, their top picks were Jason Roy, Chris Woakes and Shimron Heytmer – all are best in their respective departments.

Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Jason Roy, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kagiso Rabada, Keemo Paul, Mohit Sharma, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, R Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Rishabh Pant, Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer, Tushar Deshpande

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have managed to retain their core players, especially batting unit from the earlier seasons. However, they will not get the service of New Zealand speedster Trent Boult although they have Woakes in their kitty.

Now let us have a look at the squad of Delhi Capitals team during the upcoming IPL season.

Openers: Shikhar Dhawan and Jason Roy

Shikhar Dhawan

Delhi Capitals have as many four openers in the team, namely Shikhar Dhawan, Jason Roy, and Prithvi Shaw. The team management would be in trouble to choose between all these class players while they could try the left-right combination.in the opening slot. However, Shikhar Dhawan will get the preference for his experience and good record in IPL.

Jason Roy might get the chance to be a partner of Dhawan as well as he is a naturally attacking player. With Dhawan, they can stitch a good partnership in the powerplay overs. On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw can also be the backup opener in the squad. Moreover, he has been in sublime form and scoring big for India A. He has been included in the senior team too in the absence of their regular opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Middle-order: Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Alex Carey, Chris Woakes

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant

Shreyas Iyer came to bat at the number 3 position in the previous edition where he had a successful season with the bat. But this season, they have another experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane. It will be a tough call for the team management to decide who will bat at the crucial number 3 position. If they go with Rahane then Iyer has to come at number 4.

Rahane is an experienced player who can provide stability as well as play a sheet anchor’s role in the batting lineup of Delhi. Following him, there could be Iyer or vice-versa and Rishabh Pant, the wicket-keeper batsman. He has been out of the national team due to his poor form with the bat and keeping gloves where KL Rahul has replaced him.

However, IPL will be crucial for him to get back his place in the India team. On the other hand, they have Alex Carey and Chris Woakes to play the finishers’ role in the team, as they have enough batsmen for the slog overs. Moreover, they have Shimron Heytmer who will get a chance if Carey fails to do so.

Bowlers: Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma

Kagiso Rabada

This season Delhi Capitals will have the service of the experienced Ravichandran Ashwin. Along with him, veteran spinner Amit Mishra will be there. They will lead the spin department in the playing XI. These two are among the highest wicket-takers in the history of the Indian Premier League as well.

While they have experienced spinners in their team, pacers are no less. They have Kagiso Rabada who was their leading wicket-taker in the previous season. The team management will surely want a similar kind of performance from him in the upcoming season as well. Alongside him, there will be Indian pacer Ishant Sharma and Chris Woakes to handle the pace attack in their team.
