Hima Das wins fourth gold in a fortnight

Hima Das kept her phenomenal form going as she clinched another gold medal in Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic on Wednesday., clocking 23.25 seconds.

Hima’s compatriot VK Vismaya finished second with her season-best timing of 23.43 seconds, showcasing Indian dominance, however, the level of competitions wasn’t the highest given most of the participants were from clubs in Czech Republic.

This was 19-year-old Hima’s fourth gold in 15 days since the start of her competitive racing in Europe. Hima clocked her best 200m timing of 23.10 seconds.

The first of Hima’s four medals came at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2, which was her first competitive race of the year. She clocked 23.65 seconds to clinch gold. She repeated the feat 5 days later when she won yet another gold on July 7, at the Kunto Athletics Meet, which was also held in Poland, clocking 23.97 seconds.

Six days later, Hima found herself on the podium of Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic, finishing with yet another gold with a timing of 23.43 seconds.

Though Hima won all her four gold medals in 200m, her flagship event is the 400m, but she is yet to qualify for the World Championships in either.

Despite four golds, with the timing that Hima has achieved, she would find it hard to qualify for the World Championships, where the qualifying time for 200m is 23.02, while for 400m it is 51.80 seconds.
