Will Lionel Messi Join Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia or Return to FCB?

7-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi is inching close towards a move away from French champions Paris Saint Germain this summer. He arrived at the club as a Free agent 2 seasons ago in 2021 after he was forced to leave FC Barcelona due to the club’s financial implications.

Even after agreeing to stay at Barca for lower wages, Lionel Messi had no option but to break his 18-year-old association with the club. Not just him but the club supporters and his own fans were left in distraught when the news had broke out.

Barcelona is the club that shaped the Argentinian and barring his last Ballon D’or award in 2021, Messi won 6 out of the 7 individual honors while wearing the Catalonian colors. But due to Barca’s then corrupt management he had no option but to find a club to play for.

While Manchester City were looking to bring him to the club in 2020, Paris Saint Germain ultimately acquired his services that too on a Free. The 35-year-old penned a lucrative 2-year deal with PSG worth 35 Million Euros with an option to extend for another year.

But as it stands, neither parties are interested to extend their association meaning that Lionel Messi will be playing for a different club next year.

Why is Lionel Messi not staying at PSG for at least another year?

PSG’s main decision to sign Messi was to give the club a better chance to land their maiden UEFA Champions League trophy and he is not the only superstar signing made by PSG in order to find success in Europe. The likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Ramos among others have all failed in the European quest.

Since signing Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gini Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnaruma in 2021, the Parisians failed to get past the Last 16 stages Twice in a row. Maybe because of that reason Sergio Ramos is leaving too and Lionel Messi too is finding suitors outside of France.

Sources have suggested that Al-Nassr’s direct rival in Saudi Pro League Al-Hilal have offered Lionel Messi 600 Million Euros per year on a 2-year deal. The World champion also has offers from Major League Soccer in the USA and of course the option to reunite with FC Barcelona remains a possibility.
