Sergio Ramos set to leave PSG after 2 disappointing years at French Capital

Sergio Ramos to leave PSG this summer

Legendary Spanish center-back Sergio Ramos is all set to leave France’s capital outfit Paris Saint Germain after 2 shockingly disappointing seasons. The iconic Central defender took to Instagram to announce his decision to not extend his stay the Parc Des Princes through an emotional caption for the PSG Fans.

Sergio Ramos signed with PSG in 2021 as a free agent after spending 16 illustrious seasons at Real Madrid. His signing was mainly seen as a way to boost the French outfit’s chances of winning the UEFA Champions League, something that Ramos has won 4 times with the Madridistas.

For Real Madrid, Ramos was not just a CB but he was an emotion. He made 671 appearances for the club and played a major part in winning 22 trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu. He initially signed a 2-year deal with PSG in 2021 but missed a lot of games due to injury in his first season.

The 37-year-old had sustained a calf-injury in 2021 and it restricted his game time. In a season where he was supposed to play a key role, Sergio Ramos made only 12 appearances. His exclusion somehow ensured PSG’s exit from the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League season from the quarter-finals against Real Madrid.

An unsuccessful 2022/23 season in Europe

However this season the Spaniard had a terrific chance to make a turnaround. He played 44 matches in all competitions this year but he wasn’t able to replicate what he used to do for Real Madrid. Although he will exit the club as a 2-time French top-flight champion, lack of success in Europe could be a reason why PSG did not extend his contract.

This season he made 8 appearances in UEFA Champions League. The 37-year-old was a part of the team that lost against Bayern Munich in both legs of the Round of 16. The 2010 FIFA World cup winner will follow the footsteps of Lionel Messi, who is also set to leave the French giants after 2 years.

Sergio Ramos wrote an emotional message for PSG Fans

The 2-time UEFA Euros winner uploaded a picture of his wearing a PSG jacket on Instagram with a lengthy caption which read, “Tomorrow is a special day, tomorrow I will say goodbye to another stage of my life, goodbye to PSG. I don’t know in how many places one can feel at home, but without a doubt PSG, the fans, and Paris were one of them for me. Thank you for two special years in which I was able play in every tournament and give my all..”

Paris Saint Germain will say goodbye to Sergio Ramos when they welcome Clermont Foot for their final French Ligue 1 game of the season.
