Top 5 Players With Most Number Of Ducks In CPL History

Getting a batsman out on a duck in the shortest format is the most difficult thing to do for a bowler. It is always a matter of shame for a batsman to get back into the dressing room without scoring a run. Even the players who are known to make big records with the bat are a part of this unwanted record in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Interestingly, the list is dominated by batsmen who are known to be some of the most powerful hitters of the ball and are top-order batsmen. So, let us take a look at the batsmen who have the unwanted record of scoring most number of ducks in the history of CPL.

Here are the top 5 players with the most number of ducks in CPL:

#5 Sheldon Cottrell – 6 ducks

What more can be expected from a batsman who walks in at number 10? Sheldon Cottrell is one of the most promising talents in white-ball cricket in terms of bowling. However, expecting the same kind of performance from him with the bat might be a little too much to ask for.

Cottrell, who is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history, has been dismissed for a duck on six instances. The left-arm pacer has played 20 innings and scored 115 runs at an average of 7.66 and a strike-rate of almost 130.

#4 Chris Gayle – 7 ducks

Chris Gayle

The batsman who can single-handedly annihilate any bowling lineup with his power-hitting and impeccable batting skills also hold the unwanted record for the fourth-highest number of ducks in the tournament’s history. Christopher Henry Gayle, popularly known as the Universe Boss, has been the most crucial player for Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots but sometimes he has not been able to deliver like the team would have wanted him to.

The 40-year-batsman from Jamaica has been dismissed 7 times for a duck. He has played over 74 innings since 2013 and amassed 2,354 runs at an average of 39. He has 13 half-centuries and 4 centuries to his name.

Gayle is currently the highest run-getter in CPL history.

#3 Lendl Simmons – 7 ducks

Just like Gayle, seeing Lendl Simmons’ name in the list is a bummer. Simmons who has been playing cricket for the Windies since 2002 is the only player in the league to have played for five different franchises since 2013. The right-hand attacking batsman has played 69 innings and scored more than 2000 runs at an average of 33. In the process, he got dismissed for a duck on 7 instances, making him a batsman with the third-highest number of ducks in the Caribbean Premier League.

Simmons has smashed 16 half-centuries in CPL, most by any player. He has also hit 168 fours and 105 maximums in the tournament. He will be playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in this season.

#2 Kieron Pollard – 8 ducks

One more power-hitter who is featured on the list of players having the most number of ducks is Kieron Pollard. Pollard is known for big sixes and effortlessly hitting the ball out of the park. The all-rounder has been a part of three franchises during his time in the league and played some memorable knocks. However, he has also been a failure with them on numerous occasions.

There have been 8 instances when the big man has walked back into the dressing room without scoring a single run for his team. He also holds the record of most number of not outs in the tournament too.

Pollard has scored 1,759 runs in 67 innings and smashed 8 half-centuries. He is the only fourth batsman in CPL to have more than 100 sixes to his name. Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons, and Evin Lewis are the other three cricketers to achieve that monumental feat.

#1 Sunil Narine – 9 ducks

Narine is the most unpredictable batsman in world cricket. If it’s his day, he can single-handedly take the match away from the opponents with his unorthodox playing techniques. But on other days, he seemed to be like a tail-ender who just throws his bat on the ball. Whether it is the Indian Premier League or Caribbean Premier League, the franchises give him a chance to open the innings so that he can break the shackles and score freely.

The right-arm spinner has batted in 48 innings and has been dismissed for a duck 9 times – the most number of ducks in the CPL history.

He has also 481 runs to his name at an average of 12 and a strike-rate of 134.
