In the 2023 Bangladesh Premier League, Sylhet Strikers defeated Khulna Tigers by 31 runs on Monday thanks to two wickets from former Pakistan pacer Mohammed Amir (BPL). The left-arm quick tied Shahid Afridi’s record for the third-fastest bowler to 50 wickets in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with his first wicket of the game.

With only 30 appearances, former West Indies bowler Kevon Cooper owns the league record for the quickest to 50 wickets.

As in BPL history, Amir is the 23rd bowler to reach the milestone of 50 wickets. With 126 wickets in 96 games, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is still the league’s best wicket-taker.

Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, blaming the Pakistan Cricket Board for subjecting him to “mental torment” as one of his reasons.

However, the recently appointed Pakistani head selector Haroon Rashid stated in a recent interview with Cricket Pakistan, “I have heard he is thinking of taking his retirement back. He is playing, which is wonderful. He will be competing for a spot in the lineup like other players if he keeps up his performance.

Najam Sethi, the head of the PCB, had stated last week during a press conference that he would not obstruct Amir from making a comeback to international cricket. Sethi said ”Mohammad Amir can represent Pakistan in international cricket if he decides to take his retirement back.
