Tamim Iqbal Suffers Massive Heart Attack, Currently on Medical Support

An unfortunate incident has occurred with one of the cricketers from our neighboring country Bangladesh. Former captain of the men’s national cricket team, Tamim Iqbal has been hospitalized after a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Monday, March 24.

He was rushed to the hospital after suffering from chest pain during an ongoing, as per the reported information. The left-handed batter is currently in a critical condition and recuperating under supervised medical care of expert doctors.

The unexpected episode happened during the match between Mohammedan Sporting Club, for which Iqbal was playing and Shinepukur Cricket Club at a sports Ground in Savar area of Bangladesh.

The power hitter and veteran, Tamim Iqbal was leading his club and during the match suddenly felt a discomfort in his chest while he was on the field. He was rushed to the hospital for further evaluation after being given medical attention on the field.

“He complained of having chest pain and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was checked and underwent an ECG,” BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed. “There was a little problem and at times you cannot understand immediately (what the condition of the heart is)”.

Tamim Iqbal went out for the toss before the match but felt uneasy while fielding during the opponent team’s innings. Thereafter, a medical team rushed, and a helicopter was called to fly him out. However, Tamim couldn’t be flown out and instead, he was taken to the Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital.

As per Tariqul Islam, a Mohammedan official, “Tamim is currently hospitalized, and his condition was not good enough for him to be airlifted.”

So far, as per the latest information available to us, it is understood that Tamim is undergoing an operation and possibly a stent will be placed in his heart. Several board directors have rushed to be by the cricketer’s side and check on the health status.

As soon as the news broke out, numerous players from the cricket fraternity were seen extending their best wishes and prayers to come out of the severe health impediment with all the strength and recovery.

Talking about his phenomenal record in the white-ball format, his prominence and prowess as a batsman is for people to see. With 243 matches played and 8357 runs scored, he has scored 56 fifties and 14 hundreds. His career average of 36.65 is a highly impressive figure.

Similar to IPL, DPL is the league level tournament of Bangladesh. Talking about Tamim as a player, he has been in an impressive form, being the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament. In seven matches, the left-handed batsman scored 368 runs, with a strike-rate of 102.50. He already added two centuries to his name.
