Rohit Sharma becomes the highest run-scorer in ODIs in 2019

While the Indian cricket team showed up complete control over visitors West Indies in the second one day international in Vizag, it was vice captain Rohit Sharma who registered his 28th ODI century and the 7th of the year 2019. After the visiting captain Kieron Pollard opted to field, Rohit Sharma and his second fiddle KL Rahul opened the innings in style.

Rohit began his innings in a slow and cautious way but he started hitting sixes once he found his rhythm. The opening batsman has been in sensational form the whole year.

Earlier in 2019, Rohit became the first batsman to hit five centuries in a single edition of the ODI world cup and also finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer. However, India lost to New Zealand in the semi-final.

If you recall 2018 Rohit Sharma started with 133 against Australia in Sydney cricket ground, then he was also among the highest run scorers when India registered a historic series win over New Zealand and he followed this up with back to back fifties against Australia at home. And as aforementioned, in the world cup he was the highest run scorer.

In the 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam, he crossed 11000 ODI runs and is now the leading run scorer in this format. He has gone past India captain Virat Kohli, who might as well go past the 11000 runs in the third ODI.

Rohit’s sensational form also made him La Liga’s India brand ambassador a few days ago. The Spanish football league signed up Rohit as the brand ambassador for India, as a way to promote the sport in the country. However, football fans argued that a footballer, someone like Sunil Chettri, should have been made the league’s brand ambassador.

Rohit has also been a good captain whenever Virat has been on a leave. His captaincy, many believe, is better than Virat in T20I cricket and fans argue that Rohit should be made the full-time T20I captain.
