Liverpool FC sign long-term contract with defender Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool FC has signed the Greece defender Kostas Tsimikas for a long-term contract with the club on Monday. The Reds made their first signing of the season by acquiring Tsimikas from the Olympiacos for a whopping 11.7 million pounds ($15 million)

The 24-year-old has been allotted the jersey number 21 at the Anfield after getting into a five-year-contract with the Jurgen Klopp’s team.Β 

Now that Tsimikas will be joining the side, it will also bring in a sense of competition in the side’s defender Andy Robertson.Β 

Tsimikas was a part of Olympiacos youth academy and also appeared in 46 matches for the First team during the 2019-20 season and also netted seven goals.Β 

After signing the deal, the youngster told the club’s official website:

“I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here. For me, (it is) the biggest club in the world.

“The league here, I like a lot. I watch it on the TV and it was always one dream I had from when I was a kid to come to play in this league.

“(I want) to achieve (our) goals. To win the league again and also to win the Champions League.”

Overall, he played 86 matches for the Piraeus across all the competitions and also played for Esbjerg and Dutch team Willem II on loan stints.Β
