Liverpool FC appoints Gary O'Neil as new assistant coach of U-23 team

Liverpool FC has appointed the former England mid-fielder Gary O’Neil as the new assistant coach of the Under-23 team of the club on Monday.

Gary has the experience of playing in the Premier League for the notable clubs including Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and West Ham United in his career spanning for 19 years.

The 37-year-old midfielder announced retirement after the Champions League in 2018-19 season. He was also adjudged the Bolton Wanderers’ Player of the Award in the last year of his career.

“I’m really excited. I’ve been desperate to get going” Gary said after his appointment.

“It’s been going on for a little while and obviously with the break and the Academy having to take an even longer break than the first team, I’ve had to wait a little while, but now it’s finally come around and I’m really excited and can’t wait to get going.” he further stated.

The U-23 team of the Liverpool FC looks promising this season. They already have the likes of the talented duo of Neco Williams and Curtis Jones who are already touted as the potential players of the First team.

Besides, the club also has FA Young Cup-winning captain Paul Glatzel in the side who is back from his knee injury. Gary working with a young pool of talents could bring in a lot of success for the U23 team.
