IPL 2023 : Massive blow for LSG as Star pacer ruled out of Eliminator tie against Mumbai Indians!

North-Indian IPL outfit Lucknow Super Giants had the best possible finish to their IPL 2023 league stages as they defeated 2-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders to seal their spot for the play-offs. LSG in their final match at the Eden Gardens, secured a close win by 1-run to cement themselves 3rd in the points table.

Last year too they had finished at #3 before losing the Eliminator round against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 14 runs but this time around, the Super Giants will aim to take a step further to play either of Gujarat Titans or Chennai Super Kings at Qualifier 2.

But before LSG play Mumbai Indians tomorrow for the Eliminator, Krunal Pandya’s side dealt with a major blow as the team is all set to be without the services of English pacer Mark Wood. The Senior fast bowler from England who can consistently clock at 145+ KPH had returned to his homeland for family commitments mid way thorough the season.

Wood took a trip to England for the birth of his child last month but he was in line to return on time for the play-offs, however, a recent report has told us that he is done for this year’s IPL action. The 33-year-old played only 4 matches but took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 8.13.

During the initial stages of the tournament, Wood was the leading Purple Cap holder and he could have been on top of the list had he played consistently for LSG. It was also only his 2nd ever IPL campaign with his debut season coming in 2018 for the CSK.

Mark Wood’s numbers in just 4 matches tells us that he could have made a major difference this year but due to an injury he was forced to sit out after 4 LSG matches but by the time he regained fitness, Wood flew back home. Their Eliminator tie against Mumbai Indians will take place tomorrow at Chepauk.
