ICC has suspended Zimbabwe Cricket Board for alleged political interference in running of cricket in the country.
ICC has also withdrawn the funding they provide to Associate Nations for development of the game and has barred Zimbabwe from participating at any ICC event.
“We must keep our sport free from political interference,” said ICC chairman Shashank Manohar.
“What has happened in Zimbabwe is a serious breach of the ICC constitution and we cannot allow it to continue unchecked.”
Zimbabwe were set to feature in the T20 World Cup qualifier in October.
ICC’s decision came on the back of suspension of Zimbabwe Cricket Board, issued by government sports and recreation commission last month. The Board was replaced with an interim committee.to not disrupt day-to-day activites.
ICC will reportedly review their decision in October. Any change in Zimbawe’s fate would be known by then and if they manage to get clearance, they will be eligible, just in time, to play the T20 World cup qualifiers.
