U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup : India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Scotland off to a winning start

The inaugural edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup at South Africa has began as day 1 of the Warm-up matches concluded a while ago. 8 exciting Warm-up matches were played today and the players are gearing up for the major event which will begin from January 14.

The proceedings began with Scotland U-19 taking on USA U-19 for the first match. Scotland came out victorious as they won the match by 45 runs. The bowled out USA for 90 who were chasing a total of 136. Ailsa Lister and Darcey Carter scored 41 and 42 and a brilliant bowling performance by Katherine Fraser, Orla Montgomery and Maisie Macera broke the back of USA’s batting order.

Ireland U-19 and Pakistan U-19 locked horns in the following match and it was a rather low-scoring encounter. Pakistan were able to successfully chase down a total of 90 runs with 7 wickets to spare. Indonesia produced an outstanding upset as they defeated Zimbabwe by 15 runs.

This match was also a low scoring fixture as Indonesia could only amass 70 runs in total and in response, Zimbabwe were all out for 55 runs.

Next up Indian Women’s team squared off with Australia U-19. The Blues scored 97 while batting first with only 4 batters reaching double figures. Shafali Verma (10), Richa Ghosh (12), Hrishita Basu (28) and Archana Devi (11). While chasing Australia were restricted to 79 runs with Claire Moore reaching as high as 25 runs.

Elsewhere, Sri-Lanka handed an embarrassing loss to UAE by 52 runs as the Lankans bowled UAE out for just 38 runs. New Zealand were able to restrict Rwanda to 91 while chasing a total of 155. England saw off West Indies, chasing down 66 runs within 10 overs.

Bangladesh produced the second upset of the day as they defeated South Africa by 7 runs.
