Former KKR skipper Eoin Morgan opens up on his IPL 2022 omission

England white ball skipper and former KKR captain Eoin Morgan who guided his side in the final of IPL 2021 opens up on his omission in IPL 2022 main event.

When he went unsold in the first round of IPL 2022 auction he had a thought he would be picked for second round as a reserve middle order batsman but added that he is not disappointed for not getting picked  in the marquee event as he would have taken a break for 2 months to remain fresh for the upcoming series.

“I thought my best chance was to be picked up in the second round once squads had been put together, if someone needed help as a reserve middle order, experienced player, captain, whatever. But by the time the first round finished, pretty much every team had boxed that off, so I had no chance. I won’t play any cricket for two months at least, regardless of opportunities that present themselves. I have decided to take time away given the year we have ahead,” he said.

The reason KKR didn’t retained him in the upcoming season despite he led the side in the final in last edition is due to his dismal performance with the willow where he scored only 133 runs in 17 matches and he is clearly aware about his poor form wants to take break from the game to stay recharge.

“It’s a fact that I have not scored enough runs. I’d agree. I am viewing it as a challenge that I have been through before and I’m hoping to come out the other side. I will be using this break to recharge, but also to have a little bit of time to work on things that you don’t have time to work on while you are in competition,” he added.

Morgan will be keen to perform as batter and leader in the upcoming T20 world cup scheduled in Australia in the month of October.
