Carmella Biography: Leah Van Dale, popularly known by her ring name Carmella, is a female American professional wrestler, working with World Wrestling Entertainment for Smackdown brand. Carmella is the current WWE 24/7 Champion for the second time. Before becoming a full-time professional wrestler,  Leah Van Dale, who is the daughter of Paul Van Dale, a mixed martial artist, and former professional wrestler, was involved in dancing and appeared as a Laker Girl during the 2010–2011 season.

Van Dale joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 2013 where she became a part of its developmental territory NXT under the ring name Carmella. During her tenure with NXT, she bagged an opportunity to battle Bayley for NXT Championship, however, she lost the title match.

Carmella made her WWE main roster debut at Roadblock pay-per-view where she accompanied  Amore and Cassady for their match against The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championship. She joined WWE Smackdown in 2016 and won Money In The Bank contract in 2017 and later cashed-in to defeat Charlotte to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career.

Carmella also formed a team with R-truth as ‘The Fabulous Truth’ Carmella is a  one-time  WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, three-times  WWE 24/7 Champion,  Mixed Match Challenge (Season 2) winner with R-Truth,  Money in the Bank 2017 winner and WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal 2019 winner.

EARLY LIFE

Leah Van Dale was born on October 23, 1987 in Spencer, Massachusetts, U.S.A. She persuaded her graduation from  University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2010.  Van Dale worked as a cheerleader for the New England Patriots for three seasons till 2010.  She was involved in dancing and appeared as a Laker Girl for the Los Angeles Lakers dance team in 2010-11.

Leah Van Dale resides in  Tampa, Florida. She is the daughter of  Paul Van Dale, who is a mixed martial artist and former professional wrestler, worked with WWE in the 80s and 90s. Apart from being a professional wrestler, Van Dale is a certified fitness instructor and a personal trainer. Carmella is currently dating WWE commentator and analyst Corey Graves.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE
Carmella started her professional wrestling career in 2013 when she got into a contract with WWE for its developmental territory NXT. Carmella made her in-ring debut against Leva Betas in a winning effort. Carmella also feuded with Alexa Bliss, Eva Marie, Bayley and Nia Jax for NXT Women’s Championship, but failed to bag the title.

In 2016, Carmella made her WWE main roster at Roadblock pay-per-view with Amore and Cassady for their match against The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championship. Carmella held her first-ever WWE main roster victory on Smackdown against Natalya. Carmella started her feud with Nikki Bella after Bella pinned Carmella in a six-woman tag team match. Nikki defeated Carmella in a no disqualification match at TLC main event, which ended their feud.

Carmella became a part of Team SmackDown in the traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match at Survivor Series.  Carmella formed an alliance named as The Welcoming Committee, with Natalya and Tamina, and the three started a feud with Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Naomi. At Backlash,  The Welcoming Committee earned a victory over h Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Naomi. In 2017, Carmella created history after becoming a winner of an inaugural women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. After several unsuccessful attempts of cashing her contract, Carmella cashed her contract successfully on Smackdown on Flair to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career. At Summerslam 2018, Flair defeated Carmella to end her reign at 131 days.

Carmella teamed up with R-Truth  for the upcoming season two of the Mixed Match Challenge. The fresh tag team of Carmella & R-Truth as ‘The Fabulous Truth’ reached the final of the Mixed Match Challenge that took place at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay–per–view, where they defeated Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox to win the tournament.

Carmella won the second WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 35. Carmella has recently turned heels on R-Truth to bag the 24/7 Championship for the third time.

Carmella made her video game debut as a playable character in WWE 2K17, WWE 2K18, and WWE 2K19.

Carmella circled into the controversy after wrestling commentator Corey Graves ‘s wife accused the two of sleeping together. Amy Polinsky, who is the wife of  Corey Graves, claimed that  the ex-wrestler had been “sleeping with” the former Women’s champ.
