Border-Gavaskar Trophy 202223 Gautam Gambhir urges India to not get carried away after 2 successive victories!

India’s quest for the ICC World Test Championship final continues to take shape as they square off for the 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy at Indore’s Holkar Stadium. The hosts registered 2 massive victories at Nagpur and Delhi respectively and both the matches were finished within the 3rd Day.

In the 1st Test, India humiliated Australia by winning the match by an innings and 132 runs. While in the 2nd Test, the visitors were looking in a comfortable position in the initial stages of Day 3 but Ravindra Jadeja’s 7-wicket haul saw them score a 2nd Inning total of 113.

As a result, India were asked to chase 115 runs and they successfully achieved it by the 22nd over with Cheteshwar Pujara hitting the winning runs. The back-to-back victories have filled India with immense confidence and another win in this series will book their spot against Australia at the ICC WTC Final later in the summers.

But before we head into the Holkar test, Former World cup winner with India, Gautam Gambhir has warned the Indian team from getting carried away and give birth to over-confidence after beating the Aussies on Day 3 consecutively. Gambhir thinks that India must not get complacent amid an excellent run of play.

The 41-year-old said that Australia still have chances of producing a comeback for their pride and respect. He referenced the famous follow-on partnership between VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid of 37 runs with the former scoring 281 and latter getting to 180 for the 5th wicket.

“If one of them scores a double century, you would remember Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman did that when India were down and out, one player scored a 280 (281) and another scored a 150 (180) after a follow-on and India won the series. Such things have happened. So you can’t count them out but technically, there are a lot of issues.” – said Gambhir

Thus, Gautam Gambhir is of the view that the Baggy greens still have the potential in their dressing room to script a turnaround and a 4-0 clean sweep towards India cannot be predicted just like that.

“I cannot predict if it will be 4-0 because this dressing room still has individuals – Steve Smith, Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja – the batting will be extremely dependent on these three players if David Warner doesn’t play.” – Gautam Gambhir added on Star Sports.
