Asif Ali, Glenn Phillips guide Jamaica Tallawahs to a 5-wicket win over St. Lucia Zouks

As expected, Jamaica Tallawahs have started their campaign on a winning note, having won their first match against St.Lucia Zouks by 5 wickets on Wednesday. Batting looks a weak point for St. Lucia Zouks this season and it was clearly evident in their first game itself.

Batting first, St. Lucia Zouks posted 158 runs in 20 overs. Barring Roston Chase, who scored a handy half-century, no other player managed to impress with the bat. Roston Chase top-scored with 52 runs off 42 balls, a knock which was peppered with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Permaul and Mujeeb both picked two wickets apiece, while Russell and Lamichhane got one wicket each.

In reply, Jamaica Tallawahs chased the target comfortably in 18.5 overs. To begin with, they had a rusty start, having lost two wickets for just 13 runs in four overs. However, a gripping 44-run knock from Glenn Phillips didn’t allow St. Lucia to seize control of the game.

Asif Ali, too, played a sensational knock of 47 runs off 27 balls. His knock proved the most important in the context of the game. Star batsman Andre Russell couldn’t do much in the first game. He scored 16 runs off just 17 balls. There were some hiccups in the fag end of the innings, however, a late flourish from Carlos Brathwaite meant Jamaica romp home in the end.

Asif Ali earned the man of the match for his impressive performance.
