Najmul Shanto

At the start of the 2nd match of the Asia Cup 2023, it was clear that Bangladesh was in no match with Sri Lanka. But at the same time, because of the previous surprising performances of Bangladesh, it was clear that this team can definitely bring down big teams at times. Due to this ability of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka was definitely not taking them lightly. This is the reason in the 2nd innings, Bangladesh was able to get the early wicket of the Sri Lankan teams. Overall it was certainly the poor batting performance of Bangladesh, because of which they lost the match.

Contribution of the Najmul Shanto

Najmul Shanto made the contribution through a brilliant 89 runs. It was a fantastic inning, and if he had been able to make his team win the match, then it would have been the best of his career.

  • Bangladesh batted first, and their first wicket fell at a score of only 4. Now it was important for Mohammad Naim and Najmul Shanto to form a good partnership. However, they were not able to because the next wicket fell at the score of 25.
  • 4th wicket was of the captain Shakib Al Hasan. He got out at a score of 5 only.
  • A healthy partnership happened between Towhid Hridoy and Shanto. Both the players were able to form a stand of 59 runs. They took the score from 36 to 95 runs.
  • Once the above-mentioned partnership was over, that is when the fall of the wicket started, and it didn’t stop. However, Najmul Shanto ensured to stay there on the other end to take the score ahead of 200 runs. But without getting support from the other end, no batter can do that.
  • The wickets fell at 127-5, 141-6, 162-7, 162-8, 164-9, and the final wicket fell at the score of 164.

The final score of the team was 164, and the target was 165. The bowlers of the Bangladeshi team tried hard, but they were not able to restrict the performance of the opponent. In the end, Sri Lanka went on to win the match by 5 wickets.
