Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: Who is P.V. Sindhu and what are the major achievements of her badminton career?

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, popularly known as P.V. Sindhu, is one of India’s most successful and influential badminton players. Born on 5 July 1995 in Hyderabad, she comes from a sporting family, with both her parents, P.V. Ramana and P. Vijaya, having represented India in volleyball. Sindhu started playing badminton at the age of eight and initially trained under Mir Mehboob Ali before joining the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy.

Her international breakthrough came with a bronze medal at the 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships. She gradually established herself at the senior level, winning the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold in 2013 and securing World Championship medals in 2013 and 2014. Her biggest breakthrough came at the Rio Olympics in 2016, where she became the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic silver medal and the first Indian shuttler to reach an Olympic badminton final.

Sindhu subsequently won silver at the 2017 BWF World Championships and became World No. 2 in April 2017. She also won silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games before becoming the first Indian woman to win the BWF World Tour Finals in 2018.
