The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is not in a hurry to appoint a new chief selector in place of Chetan Sharma as the latter was caught in TV Sting operation where he revealed distinct inside stories about Indian Cricket.

Currently, Shiv Sundar Das being the interim head selector of Indian Cricket team will be assuming the responsibility also based on reports in different media outlets, BCCI selection committee is all set to select the squad for India’s longest format for WTC final against Australia at Oval.

“We will take a call when the time’s right. There is no hurry. We have a settled Test squad. The existing selection committee is fully capable of selecting the squad. They are well aware of the injury problems and their replacements,” a BCCI source told different media outlets.

Dwelling further into reports from different media outlets, BCCI selection commitee have to submit the final list of teams for WTC final by May 7th 2023 with deadline dates extending to 22nd May 2023.

As BCCI is currently gearing up for IPL 2023, cricket board will not be able to appoint a head selector on such a short notice.

Appointment of a new selector will be done post Asia Cup 2023.

Deriving further details into different media outlets, BCCI is yet to decide whether they will invite fresh applications or they will go f0r the shortlisted ones only time will tell.

“We should be getting a new man in by Asia Cup. Currently, sorting out the Media Rights and sponsorships are on high priority. In the meantime, the CAC will take a call on whether to call in new applications or recall some of the shortlisted candidates,” the BCCI official said while talking to different media sources.

Former India spinner, Harbhajan Singh talked about the salary disparity of Coach and selector and stated that they should be paid equally while talking to Indian Express.

“A man with stature, one that has played the game quite often, will solve a lot of issues at the selector level. But why wouldn’t they take up the opportunity? I’ll give the example of Virender Sehwag. If you ask Virender Sehwag to become the chief selector, then the salary of that post needs to be analysed. I don’t know how much the chief selector in India earns, but if Sehwag is in commentary or in other businesses around cricket, then it’s likely he is earning more money. If you want Sehwag, a player with stature, for the chief selector’s job, then spending money has to be key,” Harbhajan told Indian Express.

Current Selection Committee under, Shiv Sundar Das has combined experience of 25 Test matches where Das has played maximum Test matches out of this lot.
