Team India set sail for the T20 World Cup 2024, departure schedule annouced
The much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner, and the excitement is building as the Indian team prepares for its journey. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the departure schedule for the players and support staff.
According to a BCCI source, the majority of the Indian players will be departing for New York on May 25th. This includes some of the team’s big names like skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel. They will be accompanied by the entire support staff, ensuring a well-equipped team heads into the tournament.

This revised departure schedule offers some key benefits. Earlier, the plan was for players from teams that didn’t qualify for the IPL playoffs to leave for New York on May 21st. However, with India scheduled for only one warm-up match (against Bangladesh on June 1st), the BCCI has opted to give the players some additional time at home.
“The earlier departure date for the first batch was May 21st,” the BCCI source explained. “But since India is playing only one warm-up game, the players will get to spend some extra days at home.”
This additional time allows the players to rest, reenergize, and spend time with their families before diving into the intensity of the World Cup. It can also be a valuable opportunity for them to maintain their training routines and stay sharp.
For players participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final on May 26th, a slightly different departure schedule applies. They will stay back for the big match and then head to New York on May 27th.

This revised plan also ensures the team has ample time to adjust to the time difference in New York (10.5 hours ahead of India). The extra days will allow them to overcome jet lag and participate in at least three to four high-quality net sessions before their warm-up match against Bangladesh.
Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign kicks off on June 5th against Ireland in New York. All eyes will then be on the much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9th. With a strong team and a well-managed pre-tournament schedule, Indian fans have a lot to be optimistic about.
