Sri Lanka cricket all set to postpone for Lankan Premier League 2021

Sri Lanka Cricket Files Complaint to ICC

Sri Lankan cricket is in complete turmoil at the moment and their recently concluded series against England was a complete disaster for the island cricket nation.

If you look at the report, you will come across that all is not well in Sri Lankan cricket at the moment as on one hand board wants their players to sign new contracts whereas on the other hand players including the likes of Dickwell, Mendis, and Gunathalika are suspended for 1 year for breaching COVID-19 norm in England.

As per the latest developments, Lankan Premier League second season which is all suppose to start from July 30 to August 22 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota will be suspended. The absence of foreign stars is the biggest reason behind postponement and the official announcement regarding the same is expected soon.

Lankan Premier League is apparently a joint venture of Sri Lankan Cricket and Dubai-based production group  Fze(IPG).

“It (the postponement) is not about the participation of the foreign players alone. There is an element of uncertainty over the Lankan players too. So we have thought the postponement was the best solution at this stage. Besides, there are also issues over the pandemic situation in the island,” said an official involved in the league.

If the reports are true then the tournament is likely to be scheduled in the month of November-December later this year.
