Shroud Joins Sentinels; The Whole Esports Community Shocked

On July 8, Sentinels declared that Michael “shroud” Grzesiek had joined their roster of Valorant on Twitter. The squad will compete in the North American Last Chance Qualifier for the Valorant Championships, which is scheduled to take place in August, alongside the former professional Counter-Strike player turned well-known streamer.

The team’s IGL Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan stated on July 1 that the organisation needed to deploy a replacement for Hunter “SicK” Mims who was unable to participate in the event. On-stream, he announced that he would take over SicK’s duties as the team’s Controller.

Why Football Clubs are getting more involved in Esports?

Shroud has been absent from the competitive scene for more than five years, however the last time we saw him wearing the Old Guys Club tag was at the Americas Minor of the IEM: Katowice 2019 Major. His comeback to the scene is marked by this roster update.

The North American squad has experienced significant turbulence in 2022 as a result of a sharp decline in performance from 2021 and 2020. In Stage 2 of the Valorant Champions Tour, Jared “zombs” Gitlin was replaced by Eric “Kanpeki” Xu, a member of the Akrew.

At one point, the team was in risk of not even qualifying for the North American LCQ because Ghost Gaming might have edged them out of a berth in the VCT Challengers playoffs with a single victory.

It will be Sentinels’ first international Valorant competition of the year at Champions if they prevail in the LCQ tournament.

As the Sentinels Valorant teams are about to start bootcamp, fans will now have to wait to see how shroud fits into the teams.

Following a successful start at VCT 2021 Masters 2, Sentinels has had a string of dismal performances. Most recently, Sentinels was unable to advance to the VCT Stage 1 and Stage 2 masters. After failing in Stage 2, it appeared that their season was ended, but NRG’s victory over Ghost Gaming gave them the advantage for a place in the Last Chance Qualifier.

The current active roster of ‘Sentinels’ consist of:

  • Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan
  • Hunter “SicK” Mims
  • Michael “dapr” Gulino
  • Tyson “TenZ” Ngo
  • Eric “kanepeki” Xu
  • Michael “shroud” Grzesiek
  • Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty (Coach)

The Esports Community is shocked and happy at the same time, as Sentinels Twitter took them by the storm in the above tweet, making it the most liked and shared tweet in Esports’ history.
