The country last hosted major world tournaments in 1996 in the form of World Cup which was won by Sri Lanka.

They were all set to host 2011 World Cup final along with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but due to 2009 terrorist attack in Lahore on Sri Lankan players led to no country touring Pakistan for almost a decade.

As the situation has improved now and several countries have started touring Pakistan including the likes of England who will touring in October this year even the country’s most popular T20 league PSL is also played in Pakistan where several foreign players have been part of and because of this PCB is confident of hosting major tournament in their backyard.

“The ICC committee will now examine and evaluate PCB and other members expression of Interest and revert with their decision , before the second phase of event hosting starts in September. The PCB remains hopeful that it will earn hosting rights of atleast one event which will be a big thing for Pakistan which staged last event in 1996” PCB said in a latest statement according to Cricbuzz.
