Pawan Shah – Introduction

The Indian Cricket has seen some tremendous growth in the past few years and while we are not discussing the IPL or the performance of the National Cricket team, it’s about the Young Indian colts’s phenomenal performances in the pst few years at the International level. While all of us know about the U19 team brilliant performance at the U19 world cup, there’s more to that in the recent times.

U-19 teams and especially Indian U19 Cricket team has grabbed a lot of eyeballs in the recent times with what they have achieved n the past few years, including the U19 world cup recently. Though we know that India’s dominance at the U19 level isn’t anything new as the team has lifted the U-19 World Cup Trophy 4 times already, still there was something more special to the 2018 World Cup victory and that was the sheer dominance of the Indian team on all the rest of the teams in the tournament.

Though we can give most of the credit to the legendary “Wall” Rahul Dravid’s coaching skills, still it’s the talent of the players which has made them outperformed every other team in the competition. So while we are talking about the U19 team here, there’s a player who needs a very special mention in the article and that is the lad from Pune city, Pawan Shah. Though he hasn’t featured in the recently concluded U19 world cup, its all about his recent performances in the series against Sri lanka U19 Cricket team which has made him grabbed all the attention.

This opening batsman in the Under-19 team touring Srilanka has just scored his maiden double-century in second Youth Test of the series. This Century isn’t just like other centuries and by scoring the same, Pawan Shah has registered his name in the history books by becoming the player with the highest score in a youth test match. He broke the 12years old record held by Ranji player Tanmay Srivastava who did score 220 against Pakistan Under-19 Cricket team on September 13, 2006. Pawan was really brilliant in whole innings and he went o scoring 282 runs from 332 balls which included 33 fours and 1 six. Though he couldn’t finish it with a Triple century but his magical innings got appreciated from all the corners of the Indian Cricket arena.

By scoring this Double century, Pawan Shah registered his name in the elite list of criketers which includes some big names like Tanmay Srivastava, Gautam Gambhir, Cheteshwar Pujara, Abhinav Mukund and Vinayak Mane.

Shah missed out big time on becoming only the second player in the Youth cricketing history to score a Triple century. Still his 282 would remain as the second highest score in the Youth test matches by any player.

Before excelling into the U19 level, Pawan Shah has played for Maharashtra in both U14 and U16 levels. Moreover, he has played for West zone before breaking into the Indian U19 side with his brilliant cricketing performances. As per his Cricketing Coach Mohan Jadhav during an interview, “When Pawan Shah first came to my Cricket academy; he seems like not that Interested in playing there. That’s where I used to make him pad up and play in the practice matches as till then, he only used to come and watch the other players playing sitting on bench. What was more prolific was one of his Hook shots that he tried on a pace bowler .This is when I saw that spark in his eyes and asked his parents to change his school and that’s where his game got a good kick start. Pawan Shah is a hard working player and the best part about him is his “always keen to learn” approach. He was up to every instruction I used to give him and as per me; he is a future Indian Cricketing star in making for sure.
