Saad Bin Zafar Biography: Age, Birth Place, Personal Life, Achievements, and more

Saad Bin Zafar was born in the Punjab town of Pakistan but moved to a lot of places for his studies and started playing cricket for Canada. He will be captaining the team in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024.

Early Life

Saad Bin Zafar (born November 10, 1986) is a Pakistani-Canadian international cricketer who currently captains the Canadian men’s national team. Saad, a left-handed all-rounder, started playing tape ball cricket at the age of ten and transitioned to leather ball cricket at 14, when he joined his junior school squad.

In 2004, he represented Overseas Cricket Club in the Premier Division. During his time at the University of Toronto, he led the CIMA Toronto Mayor’s Team XI on a 2010 Cricket Across the Pond tour in England. In his long cricket career, Saad has seen all the ups and downs in his roller-coaster life.

Career

Saad’s cricket career with the Canadian national team began in June 2008, when he was picked to Canada’s roster for the 2007–08 ICC Intercontinental Cup. He made his international debut against Bermuda on July 4, 2008, and impressed with four wickets, including a crucial dismissal of Bermuda captain Irving Romaine. 

In December 2009, he joined the squad for Sri Lanka’s 2010 Quadrangular Twenty20 Series and competed in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in the UAE, making his T20 debut against the UAE. Saad made a notable comeback in April 2015, when he was picked for Canada’s squad for the ICC Americas Twenty20 Division One, followed by the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, when he was the most economical bowler. 

His efforts continued in May 2017 for the ICC World Cricket League Division Three event in Uganda and in January 2018 for the Division Two competition in Namibia. In August 2018, he competed in the ICC World Twenty20 Americas Qualifier.

In April 2019, Saad competed in the ICC World Cricket League Division Two event in Namibia, finishing as Canada’s best wicket-taker with 11 dismissals. He made his T20I debut on August 18, 2019, against the Cayman Islands. Later that year, he competed in the Malaysia Cricket World Cup Challenge League A, with an economy rate of 3.50.

In October 2019, he took the most wickets for Canada in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier, with nine. In November 2021, at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier in Antigua, he became the first bowler to bowl four overs in a T20I match without allowing a run. 

In February 2022, he competed in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A in Oman, and in July 2022, he collected his first five-wicket haul in List A cricket against Malaysia during the Canada Cricket World Cup Challenge League A.
