Pakistan Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Hussain on Tuesday accused India and BCCI for Sri Lanka dropping out of the Pakistan tour. He claimed that India threatened to remove the Sri Lankan players from the Indian Premiere League if they featured in the Pakistan tour.
He stated “Informed sports commentators told me that India threatened SL players that they ll be ousted from IPL if they don’t refuse Pak visit, this is really cheap tactic, jingoism from sports to space is something we must condemn, really cheap on the part of Indian sports authorities”.
The interesting trivia is that apart from Lasith Malinga, none of the players feature in the Indian Premiere League.
A few days ago made a nasty remark on India after ISRO lost the connection with the Vikram lander during the landing. He stated “India only way now you can reach moon is through Bollywood,another 100 crore and you guys ll be on the moon. on serious note extremists always fail and you failed when instead of scientists you relied on Jotshi and delayed the mission,Come out of hatred for other communities”.
On Monday Sri Lanka announced the squad for the Pakistan tour included 3 ODI’s and 3 T20 matches that shall be played between 27 September and 19 October.
10 years ago the Sri Lankan cricketers were fired by few gunmen, when the team bus was about to reach the Gaddafi stadium, Lahore. During the incident 6 Sri Lankan cricketers were injured, while 6 security persons and 2 civilians died at the spot.
Sri Lankan board clearly stated they dropped the tour due to security concerns. Players’ security is a top priority, so the decision was to opt out.
