LSG vs DC IPL 2023 Highlights: Lucknow Super Giants outclass Delhi Capitals by 50 runs in the opening encounter

Lucknow Super Giants, the newly introduced team into the IPL playing at their home ground for the first time did not disappoint their thousands of fans at the Ekana Stadium as they completed a comprehensive victory against the Delhi Capitals franchise on Saturday evening.

It was just the third match of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League where the Lucknow-based and the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise came out on top and beat their opponents by a margin of 50 runs.

The home team lost the toss to the visitors as the visitors asked the hosts to come out and bat on a decent pitch for batting.

Their beginning looked scratchy as K L Rahul departed early after struggling for 2-3 overs but then there was a storm at the Ekana Stadium which was named Kyle Mayers. He scored a fabulous 73 off just 38 balls scoring seven sixes and two fours in his swashbuckling innings.

He was supported by Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, and the impact player K Gowtham who scored a last-ball six to take LSG’s total to 193 runs after the end of 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals started well in their innings as they looked well on the way to chasing the target but Mark Wood had other plans. Delhi was 40/0 after 4 overs but then came Mark Wood who bowled one of the great fast bowling spells in the history of IPL.

Mark Wood breathed fire and showed everyone what raw pace can do on a flat track. He dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh off consecutive balls and that derailed Delhi’s journey to the target. Wood finished with the figures of 4-0-14-5 in the match and was the Player of the Match.

David Warner scored a fifty as he stayed at one end till the 16th over but the required rate was so high that he also gave up in the end. He also looked a bit scratchy throughout this inning as he was not up to his best.

To give a crux, it was a dominant performance from the LSG who have started this tournament in the right way and would like to go only upwards from here.
