LOWEST POWERPLAY SCORES IN IPL

Powerplays play an important role for setting up a huge total whether it’s in IPL or any are T20i match openers have to score big runs in powerplays if they have to set a huge total for the opposition side.

It’s important for the openers to hit as many runs as possible in the powerplay, but sometimes they got out quickly and lose 2-3 early wickets in powerplays.

Let’s talk about the top 5 lowest ever powerplay scores in IPL history.

SRH

  • 14-3 (SRH vs RR): In the 5th match of the IPL 2022, SRH set an unwanted record of lowest ever powerplay score in IPL history, where they only managed to score 14 runs for 3 wickets while chasing a huge total of 211 set by Rajasthan Royals. In the powerplay SRH loses three big wickets of Kane Williamson, Rahul Tripathi, and Nicholas Pooran. In this season  Sunrisers Hyderabad have not even managed to won a single game till now.

  • 14-2 (RR vs RCB): In the 2nd match of 2009 IPL, Rajasthan Royals scored the second lowest score in powerplay of 14-2. They were chasing a total of 134 runs set by Royal Challengers Bangalore, but while chasing the total they lost 2 quick wickets and got all out on just 58 runs. In the match RCB’s Praveen Kumar gave his best IPL bowling spell of 5 runs for 5 wickets in 3.1 overs.

  • 15-2 (CSK vs KKR):  In the 48th match of 2011 IPL, Chennai Super Kings were  trapped by the bowling attack of Kolkata Knight Riders, as they only managed to score 15 runs for 2 wickets in the powerplay. While batmen go hard on bowlers in powerplay’s CSK didn’t get a chance to play many big shots. CSK only managed to score 114 runs at the end of the innings and KKR won the match by 8 wickets by the DLS method.

  • 16-1 (CSK vs DC): In the 49th  match  of the 2015 IPL,  Delhi Daredevils stopped Chennai Super Kings from scoring runs in the powerplay, as they didn’t ball many lose balls and only gave 16 runs in powerplay for 1 wicket. CSK was chocked from the bowling of Zahir Khan as he gave only 9 runs in his spell for 2 wickets including one maiden over.

CSK IPL 2015

  • 16-1 (CSK vs RCB): In the first match of 2019 IPL Chennai Super Kings were assaulted by the bowling attack of RCB, as they only managed to score 16 runs in the powerplay with the loss of one wicket. Shane Watson got out for a 10 ball duck by Yuzi Chahal. Even after a poor start in the powerplay Chennai Super Kings managed to win the match by 7 wickets, as they were only chasing 71 runs they won the match very easily.

  • 17-4 (KKR vs RCB): In the 39th match of the 2020 IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders scored their lowest score in the powerplay against Royal Challengers Bangalore. KKR only scored 17 runs in the powerplay for 4 wickets. Kolkata Knight Riders was brutally assaulted by Mohammad Siraj one of the leading pacer of Royal Challengers Bangalore as he only gave 8 runs in his 4 over spell and took 3 important wickets of Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana and Tom Banton.
