Will Sai Sudharsan’s consistency help him get regular chances to be a part of India’s T20 Squad?

Gujarat Titans has had a dream campaign in the current edition of the Indian Premier League. They are currently comfortable at the top of the points table, with 8 points in 5 matches.

The fairly young franchise, led by Shubman Gill delivered a comprehensive performance on Wednesday to defeat Rajasthan Royals by a huge 58 runs in the 23rd match of IPL 2025. This important victory was made possible, all because of the amazing batting display, taken forward by a stylish innings from Sai Sudharsan, the current one-man army for his team.

Sai has been an explosive opener, providing flying starts, almost every time he has stepped onto the field. Even in yesterday’s match, he took control of the innings with patience, after the captain Shubman Gill departed early from the ground.

The applause worthy performance provided the backbone of GT’s innings and set up a massive target for the Royals to chase under lights.

His outstanding knock included eight boundaries and three sixes, showcasing his growing confidence and maturity at a young age itself. He paced his batting beautifully – with the perfect mix of steadiness, fluency and aggression, as and when needed. Gujarat Titans’ scouting team had spotted Sudharsan’s talent and potential in 2022, when they signed him for INR 20 lakhs in the auction. Through the seasons after that, he has gone on to accumulate 1037 runs, which included a 527-run season last year in 2024.

His brilliant 2024 campaign saw him become the fastest Indian to reach 1000 IPL runs, in 25 innings and created history with this feat. Owing to his performance itself, the GT management had decided to retain him for a whopping INR 8.5 crores ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

In the clash against RR, Sai Sudharsan played a great knock of 82 runs from 53 balls. This was his 3rd fifty this year, making him climb to the second spot on the orange cap board with a total of 273 runs in 5 games.

As far as the last 10 IPL innings are concerned, Sai has accumulated a total of 562 runs, including one century and six half centuries. His form truly has been majestic.

Without a doubt it can be said that Sai’s consistency has been a key contributor behind GT’s successful run in IPL so far. The hard-hitting 82 not only powered Gujarat Titans to a commanding win but also took Sai himself past IPL icons like Chris Gayle and Kane Williamson on the elite run-scorers list.

He becomes the second-highest run-scorer after 30 innings in Indian Premier League history.

Sudharsan also becomes the only Indian in IPL’s history to score five consecutive 50+ scores at a venue, the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. His positive spirit and inspiring form set an example for other batsmen of his generation to structure an innings, believe in the hard work and deliver when the team needs it the most. Sudharsan seems to have carried his consistent form this year as well, continuously scoring runs and improving Titans’ chances to claim their second IPL title this year.
