The Indian Premier League will have a new sponsor this year as VIVO decided to take a break from their sponsorship commitments in 2020 due to rising tension between China and India at Ladakh but they will be back as sponsor in 2021.

“BREAKING NEWS:  VIVO won’t be the IPL sponsor this year. They will be back in 2021 and continue till 2023. The IPL will have a new sponsor this edition IPL” Vikrant Gupta Senior Sports Journalist Tweeted.

As per the latest meeting held on 2nd August by IPL governing council they decided to retain VIVO as title sponsor of IPL 2020. VIVO being the Chinese company was not appreciated from all Indian fans after what happened between Chinese and Indian soldiers at Galwan Valley in Ladakh where Chineese soilders displayed a cowardly act by killing 22 Indian soldiers.

In response to that, Indian government banned all the majorly used Chinese apps which include names like Tik Tok, UC Browser and Hello.

However the cash-rich league is all set to be scheduled from 19th September 2020 to 10th November 2020 in UAE as the cases in India is increasing alarmingly with more than 17 lakh people infected at the moment.

VIVO India had bagged the official sponsorship of IPL in 2017 for five years for Rs 2199 crore which means every season they were paying 440 crore. They became the official sponsor after removing soft drinks giant Pepsico.

It has added a huge pressure on IPL think tank as they will have to find a new sponsor now and finding a new sponsor in the pandemic time will not be easy especially all the companies are going through huge financial crisis at the moment.
