India and Sri-Lanka’s final ODI match of the 3-match series concluded today as the hosts whitewashed the Asian champions by 3-0 to win the first series of 2023. After winning the T20 series last month, India continued their winning spree against the Lanka Lions in the ODIs which was aided by comprehensive individual performances.

The extent of humiliation that India have put Sri-Lanka into is utterly embarrassing for a side which won the continental championship last year. The Blues registered a 317-run victory in the 3rd ODI spearheaded by Virat Kohli’s 46th ODI ton, Shubhman Gill’s 110 and Mohammad Siraj’s 4/32.

The hosts quickly destroyed the islanders with the ball, showing off some new ball magic to con the islanders. The Lions were in trouble at 51/8 after 14 overs thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s four wickets taken in his first five overs with Shami and Kuldeep Yadav scalping 2 wickets each.

After that, Siraj became the focus of the game as the entire squad rallied around him and supported him as he attempted to secure his first ever five-wicket haul. Other bowlers were deliberately bowling slow deliveries outside off and skipper Rohit Sharma gave part-timer Shreyas Iyer the following over in keeping with the same philosophy.

But Siraj could not get to a fifer but India clinched the series by 3-0 and they will play New Zealand on 18th January at Hyderabad.
