IND Vs SL 3rd ODI : India register their largest victory over Sri-Lanka

India have begun 2023 in the best way possible and there wouldn’t have been a better time than this to gain some positive momentum. The Blues have whitewashed the Lankan lions by 3-0 at home and kick off the new year in style. The 3rd and final ODI of the match saw India register their largest marginal victory by 317 runs against their continental counterparts.

Virat Kohli’s 46th ODI century and 2nd of the series along with Shubhman Gill’s 110, India posted a total of 390. It seemed as if India had won the match in the 1st innings itself. Kohli and Gill stood firm in the crease for a partnership of 131 runs and anchored for a humongous target.

Sri-Lanka had an embarrassing and disastrous response as they got all out for 73 runs. Nawindu Fernando was their highest scorer with only 19 runs and India’s comprehensive series win will fill India with much needed confidence as the build up for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has already begun.

Up next, India will host New Zealand for a 3 match ODI series followed by 3 T-20 Internationals. THe Kiwis have flown to Hyderabad after their ODI series win at Pakistan.

But the way India carried themselves in the first 3 ODI’s of the calendar and major players hitting their form has to remain consistent. India’s long battle of finding the right combination in the opening pair has received some clarity with Shubhman Gill proving to be a solid option.

With Ishan Kishan also ready for opportunities, India can have them as a lefty-righty combo in the opening slot in Rohit Sharma’s absence. Virat Kohli’s bad days are far behind him as he scored his 2 centuries in the 1st and 3rd ODI to get to 46 ODI tons.

The Middle-order has seemed compact with Shreyas Iyer at 4 and KL Rahul finding comfort at number 5. Hardik Pandya Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja’s comeback will further bolster India’s abilities. They have a long calendar ahead with Australia set for Tests and ODIs after India Vs New Zealand concludes.

The bowling unit is looking in fine form too and most of the credits for India’s largest victory was because of the pace armory. Mohammad Siraj picked 4 wickets while Mohammad Shami had Kuldeep had 2 wickets each as India won by 317 runs.
